The cryptographic approach is strictly stronger. A notary stamp can be forged. A SHA-256 hash on a decentralized blockweave cannot.

Every document on Arweave carries metadata tags that establish its provenance:

• Content-Type: What kind of document it is (PDF, image, text)
• App-Name: Which application uploaded it
• Owner: The wallet address that signed the transaction
• Custom tags for contract numbers, case IDs, or any other identifiers

This metadata is indexed and searchable through gateway GraphQL APIs. Organizations can build systems that automatically verify document authenticity by checking the Arweave transaction against the expected hash.

AI Content Verification

As AI-generated content becomes more prevalent, proving the authenticity and origin of documents grows more important. Storing original documents on Arweave creates a verifiable chain of provenance.
